Packaging

Position Summary:

Responsible for inspecting and packaging of the cheese to include sealing, taping, weighing, stacking and moving cheese away from the packaging line.

Essential Functions:

  • Receives packing order and determines that correct packing materials are available at the packing station.
  • Inspect cheese for foreign matter and remove products not acceptable to be sent out to our customers.
  • Open rejected cheese while ensuring flow of line is not disturbed.
  • Monitor the metal detector and efficiency of packaging machine and contact crew leader when troubleshooting is necessary.
  • Pack items in the correct designated cartons per our customer orders.
  • Monitor the taping machine for proper sealing of boxes.
  • Ensure the right code is in the code dater.
  • Operate the scale and record the correct weight on the ends of boxes.
  • Stacking boxes on the pallet in proper order.
  • Inform maintenance of any improper working machinery.
  • Responsible for daily check of pallet jacks, minor machine maintenance, removing loaded pallets from the assembly area and cleaning the packaging area.
  • Keep record of items packed and attach production order with last item packed.
  • Responsible for keeping work area clean throughout the shift, and at the end of the shift.
  • Follow all plant and company GMPs, safety rules, and work rules. Ensure product quality and food safety is maintained each shift as a result of following these quality procedures.
  • Complete all sanitation and pre-op records on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Complete any other related tasks assigned by the supervisor or management team.

Skill and Physical Demand Requirements:

  • Dependable as well as self-motivated
  • Need to be organized and pay good attention to details/documentation.
  • Frequently required to lift and move cheese weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, push, pull and squat frequently.
  • Must be able to frequently communicate and work well with other team members.
  • Some basic understanding of machinery or mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to work flexible hours including overtime, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Must be able to wear hearing protection in high noise areas.
  • Must be able to be lockout/tagout certified.

Education/Experience and Work Environment:

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Required to work irregular hours which include some weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Required to wear PPE, while using chemicals for cleaning purposes.
  • During sanitation and cleaning, it can be a hot, wet, and humid environment.
  • The ability to read and comprehend and communicate with others.
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.

Production

Position Summary:

Operate the tables, blower/dicer, rack cheese, and perform sanitation functions as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  • Check set times of curd and drop times to be sure product is ready to run.
  • Ensure the cheese has the right ripening time required for the product.
  • Ensure that the tables do not over fill and agitators set at the right speed.
  • Ensure that the tables and all equipment that comes in contact with the product is cleaned and sanitized properly.
  • May need to do some cleaning and keep area neat and sanitary.
  • Must have working knowledge of the chemicals and their uses.
  • Must follow all company GMP’s & food safety rules, safety policies, and other quality procedures, including lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure product quality and food safety is maintained each shift as a result of following these quality procedures.
  • Must document and maintain accurate record/logs.
  • Take cheese pH and record on logs.
  • Must have the ability to rotate to other positions.
  • Perform sanitation functions as required by management.
  • Complete all Sanitation and Pre-Op records on a daily, weekly, and monthly bases.
  • Complete any other related tasks assigned by the supervisor or management team.

Skill and Physical Demand Requirements:

  • Must be a self-starter.
  • Must be able to work in a wet environment.
  • Must be willing to learn the basics of cheese making to better understand the process.
  • Need to be organized and pay attention to details/documentation.· Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. with help.
  • Requires standing for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, reach/pull and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to be Lockout/Tagout certified.
  • Good communication, interpersonal skills, ability to work well with others.
  • Requires climbing up and down stairs throughout the day.
  • Ability to wear hearing protection in high noise areas.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including overtime, weekends and holidays as needed.
